The time has come, the merry Season is upon us! To each and everyone of you, may you have a very Merry Christmas, a smashing Hogmanay to all our Scottish friends, and a Happy New Year!
Nun ist es soweit, das Christkind kommt, es ist Weihnachten. Ich wünsche Euch allen Frohe Weihnachten und nur das Beste für das Neue Jahr!
I chose this poem because it sums up what Christmas is to me this year. I am very sorry to say that I did not find a translation for it – and to be honest, I don’t dare translate Fontane myself. So this is a little summary for those of you who cannot read it. This little poem, very simply, says one thing: that while we get older and the Christmasses to come are getting fewer, if you stop and sum it all up – the good, the bad, the right, the wrong, the bright and the dark, in the end it makes a life. And it reminds us to be or become aware of that and, well, celebrate it.
